This large, antique celadon dish is a classic example of Sawankhalok (Si Satchanalai) stoneware from the Sukhothai period of Thailand (14th–16th century). Its size and distinct decorative features make it a significant collector's piece of Southeast Asian maritime trade ceramics.
High-fired Stoneware
Classic pale olive-green celadon with natural age-related crazing (fine surface cracks).
The interior features meticulously incised concentric circles at the center and a delicate scalloped petal motif near the rim. The exterior is adorned with deeply carved vertical fluting, often referred to as a "lotus petal" or "chrysanthemum" design.
The unglazed, recessed foot reveals the typical reddish-brown clay body characteristic of high-iron Thai stoneware. A visible circular scar on the base indicates the use of a tubular kiln support, a hallmark of authentic Sukhothai-era production.
This style of ceramic was a primary export in the Southeast Asian maritime trade. Similar examples have been recovered from major Ming-era shipwrecks like the Royal Nanhai.
The plate was obtained from the private collection of and English collector Mr. Brian Page.
Weight is 1423,9 gr.
Height is 10,5 cm.
Diameter is 29cm.
