This striking antique Tokkuri (sake bottle) is a prime example of Ko-Seto (Old Seto) stoneware, one of Japan's most revered ceramic traditions.
The piece features a bold, glossy iron glaze (tetsu-yu) that has been applied to the upper portion and allowed to drip naturally, creating a dynamic visual contrast against the rustic, unglazed stoneware body.
The bottle follows the traditional Mingei (folk art) aesthetic, celebrating the beauty of hand-thrown imperfection and the organic "wabi-sabi" character of the clay. Included is its original wooden storage box (Tomobako), which bears the handwritten calligraphic label: Ko-Seto Tokkuri (古瀬戸徳利).
  • Origin: Seto, Aichi Prefecture, Japan
  • Style: Ko-Seto stoneware with flowing iron-black glaze
  • Form: Classic bulbous tokkuri with a tapered neck, ideal for maintaining temperature
  • Condition: Excellent antique condition; unglazed base shows authentic wheel-thrown texture
  • Provenance: Accompanied by its original, labeled wooden storage box (Tomobako)
  • Height: 21 cm
  • Width: 16 cm
  • Weight: 1508.7 g
