This artwork is an original graphic by the master of Czech Symbolism, František Kobliha (1877–1962).
This specific piece is a rare aquatint, an intaglio technique used to create tonal areas and a sense of atmosphere.
"Dragon in the Mountains" (Drak ve skalách)
This haunting and mystical work is a quintessential example of Kobliha’s ability to weave together nature and myth. At first glance, it appears to be a stark mountain peak rising above a dark foreground. However, a closer look reveals a serpentine dragon coiled in the shadows at the bottom left, its dark form integrated into the rugged terrain.
Created circa 1930, this aquatint showcases the artist's incredible technical range, using deep tonal contrasts to evoke the "cosmic visions" and melancholic dreamscapes that defined his career.
