This exquisite handmade tokkuri (sake bottle) is the work of celebrated Japanese ceramicist Kimura Morikazu (木村盛和). It features a masterful application of the rare and difficult Yuteki (Oil Spot) Tenmoku glaze.
The vessel has a classic, rounded body that tapers into a slender neck. The glaze is the highlight of the piece: a deep, midnight-black base transitions into a rich ferruginous (iron-rich) brown at the top. Where the two meet, a beautiful "oil spot" crystallization occurs, creating shimmering blue and gold iridescent flecks that resemble a nebula or stars in the night sky.
