Artistic Composition:
An exceptional example of yakusha-e (actor portraiture) by the "Last Master of Ukiyo-e," Toyohara Kunichika. This triptych captures a pivotal moment of mie (dramatic posing) from a classic Kabuki play. The composition is expertly balanced, featuring four lead actors in highly stylized costumes against a vivid architectural background of a red temple gallery (kairo) and blooming cherry blossoms.

Pigment Quality: Features the bold use of imported aniline dyes (particularly the "Meiji Red") characteristic of the era’s "Red Prints" (aka-e), which remain strikingly vibrant in this impression.

Textile Rendering: The prints showcase meticulous attention to detail in the kimono patterns, including the bishamon-kikko (hexagonal) motif and intricate floral brocades, demonstrating the high-level carving skills of the Meiji period workshops.

Theatrical Drama: The interplay of gazes between the central figure and the flanking actors exemplifies Kunichika's ability to translate the tension of live theater onto the woodblock medium.
