This vibrant Meiji-era triptych is a mitate-e (parody or comparison print) that features six prominent Kabuki actors of the day portraying legendary female figures known for their bravery and skill. Kunichika, the undisputed master of actor prints (yakusha-e), captures the theatrical intensity of the performers against a striking red "hemp leaf" (asanoha) patterned background.
