This Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print is titled "Two Seated Geisha, One Playing the Biwa" and is credited to the renowned artist Utagawa Kunisada (also known as Toyokuni III, 1786–1865).

The artwork depicts an intimate interior scene: Two women, potentially geisha or courtesans, are sitting on a tatami mat. The left woman is actively strumming a biwa (a traditional Japanese short-necked lute), while the woman behind her is observing. The background showcases a screen adorned with blooming cherry blossoms, evoking a springtime atmosphere, and the women are adorned in intricately patterned kimonos typical of the fashionable Edo period style.

Artistically, the elaborate composition and vibrant colors are emblematic of Kunisada's work, which often revolved around the themes of bijinga (depictions of beautiful women) and kabuki actors during the mid-19th century.

Measuring 35cm x 25cm.
