This exquisite Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print showcases the renowned Kabuki performer, Bandō Mitsugorō (阪東三津五郎), likely portraying the third generation (Bandō Mitsugorō III).

It is attributed to the esteemed artist Utagawa Toyokuni I (1769–1825), known for his mastery of depicting actors and as the leader of the Utagawa school.

The print captures the actor in a striking stance, drawing his sword, possibly as the character Kaminari Tsurunosuke.

This piece exemplifies the vibrant and expressive nature of actor prints that were popular during the Edo period in Japan.

Printed in 1812, it measures 37,5cm x 26cm and is mounted on paper.
